Towson University has earned a STARS Gold rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the (AASHE). STARS, , measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education. 

With more than 1,200 participants in 52 countries, AASHE鈥檚 STARS program is the most widely recognized framework in the world for publicly reporting comprehensive information related to a college or university鈥檚 sustainability performance. Participants report achievements in several areas: academics, engagement, operations, planning and administration, and innovation and leadership.

Under the guidance of the Office of Sustainability, 撸先生 is committed to using sustainable practices, responsibility management and efficient use of all resources. This STARS ranking is a testament to 撸先生鈥檚 continued success in integrating sustainability in all aspects of campus and campus life. The report shows a perfect score in community partnerships, continuing education, shared facilities, food recovery and sustainability coordination.

鈥淪TARS was developed by the campus sustainability community to provide high standards for recognizing campus sustainability efforts,鈥� says AASHE Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser. 鈥溸Ｏ壬� has demonstrated a substantial commitment to sustainability by achieving a STARS Gold Rating and is to be congratulated for their efforts.鈥�

Unlike other rating or ranking systems, this program is open to all institutions of higher education, and the criteria that determine a STARS rating are accessible to anyone with an AASHE account. Because STARS is a program based on credits earned, it allows for both internal comparisons as well as comparisons with similar institutions.
