Financial Aid

Financial aid can be applied toward 撸先生 exchanges, 撸先生 programs, and approved non-撸先生 programs but there may be some restrictions depending on the type of aid you receive. Students can request additional loan funds to help cover study abroad/away costs by submitting a Study Abroad/Away Budget to the 撸先生 Financial Aid Office.  It is also a good idea to schedule an appointment with a Financial Aid Adviser to discuss borrowing options for the abroad or away term.

IMPORTANT: Tuition remission can only be applied to 撸先生 Exchanges.

Scholarships

Each year, Towson University students receive scholarships for study abroad and away experiences from 撸先生 and external organizations and providers. Reach out to our office or refer to the organization or provider鈥檚 website for more information on the scholarships below. 

撸先生 Study Abroad and Away Scholarships

Open to 撸先生 full-time undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students participating in an approved study abroad program or exchange, 撸先生 study away (domestic) faculty-led program, or the National Student Exchange. Recipients are required to participate in a study abroad/away related service activity or project during or after their experience. Fall, spring, Spring Break, Minimester, summer, year.

Deadlines: March 15 (summer, fall, and academic year); October 15 (Minimester, spring, Spring Break, calendar year). Students applying early for study abroad may also apply for the scholarship in the prior cycle.

1. Complete and submit a study abroad or away application in Horizons. 
2. Access the Study Abroad Scholarships application from the 鈥淪earch Scholarships鈥� tab in Horizons.
3. Select the term that you're applying for, and follow the steps to apply.

撸先生 Study Abroad & Away scholarships include the 撸先生 Institutional Study Abroad Scholarship, Angela Gerwig Harold Memorial Endowed Scholarship, COFAC Study Abroad & Away Scholarship, Dr. Armin and Marlene Mruck Scholarship (CLA Student Exchange Program), Dr. John M. Govern Memorial Scholarship, Frank J. Sanders Scholarship, Sae Joo Chang Endowment for International Scholars and Program Development Scholarship, 撸先生 in Italy American University of Rome Scholarship, and the 撸先生 in Italy Lorenzo de Medici Scholarship.

撸先生 Honors College Study Abroad Scholarship

The 撸先生 Honors College Study Abroad Scholarship is open to all 撸先生 full-time undergraduate degree-seeking members of the 撸先生 Honors College who are studying abroad. Fall, spring, Spring Break, Minimester, summer, year. Students must submit an Honors College Study Abroad Scholarship Application Form in order to be considered. 

Deadlines: April 1 (summer, fall, and academic year); November 1 (Minimester, spring, Spring Break, calendar year). 

Non-撸先生 Scholarships

benjaMIN A. Gilman INTERNATIONAL Scholarship

are open to full-time undergraduate degree-seeking students who are Pell Grant recipients. 

Boren Fellowships 

are open to U.S. graduate students studying less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Students studying abroad in Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are not eligible to apply. Boren Fellowships are awarded for experiences abroad ranging from 12 weeks to 12 months.

Boren Scholarships 

are open to U.S. full-time undergraduate degree-seeking students studying in world regions critical to U.S. interests and/or studying less commonly taught languages. Students studying abroad in Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are not eligible to apply. Fall, spring, summer (minimum eight weeks - science, technology, engineering, and mathematics students ONLY), year.

Bridging Scholarships 

are open to U.S. full-time undergraduate degree-seeking students studying abroad in Japan. 

BUTEX Scholarship

are open to U.S. full-time undergraduate degree-seeking students studying abroad at a BUTEX member university in the UK. 

Critical Language Scholarship Program 

offers fully funded intensive summer language institutes overseas in critical need foreign languages for U.S. citizen undergraduate, Master's and Ph.D students. 

DAAD Awards 

are open to U.S. full-time undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students for study or research in Germany.

DIVERSE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN OF COLOR S撸先生DY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP 

is intended to assist women of color who are exceptional in their studies and in need of financial assistance to study abroad. 

Freeman-ASIA Scholarship

are open to U.S. full-time undergraduate degree-seeking students with demonstrated financial need for study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. Program must include intensive language study.

Fund for Education Abroad 

support undergraduate degree-seeking students who are underrepresented among the U.S. study abroad population. Minimum 14 days. No previous study abroad experience. 

John S. McCain International Scholarship for Military Families

is open to U.S. undergraduate degree-seeking students who are child or spousal dependents of active or activated United States military personnel. Applicants must be recipients of any type of Title IV federal financial aid during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving Title IV federal financial aid during their study abroad program or internship. 

JOY worldwide study abroad scholarship

is open to African American undergraduate degree-seeking students. Minimum 3 months.

National Italian American Foundation

are open to U.S. undergraduate degree-seeking Italian American students, and students from any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, Italian American studies or a related field. 

National Society of Collegiate Scholars

offers multiple types of scholarships to full-time undegraduate and graduate degree seeking student NSCS members.

Oldenburg Contact Grants

Oldenburg Contact Grants are open to full-time undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students who are Maryland residents studying abroad at Carl Von Ossietsky University in Oldenburg, Germany. 鈧�200 per month stipend. To apply, submit the following to the 撸先生 Study Abroad & Away Office: one page essay describing your degree program including your major and courses taken; official transcript, a letter from your German language professor describing your language ability; a letter of recommendation from a professor. Application deadlines: October 15 for spring, March 15 for fall.

Turkish Coalition of America SCHOLARSHIPS

are open to full-time undergraduate or graduate student degree-seeking students for study abroad in Turkey, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, or Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

U.S. Japan Council Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship

are open to undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students.
