Bailey Deacon 鈥�10 leads the organization鈥檚 fundraising, volunteers, social media and community relations.
In college, Bailey Deacon 鈥�10 majored in art鈥攁nd had four dogs. Now, the director of community engagement at BARCS, the largest animal shelter in Maryland, is down to three鈥攁nd two cats. 鈥淲hen you get into animal rescue, you start to fall for some of the misfits, and I鈥檓 a total sucker for those.鈥� Deacon leads the organization鈥檚 fundraising, volunteers, social media, community relations鈥攑retty much everything that鈥檚 not direct animal care. More than 10,000 animals a year come through the shelter, which, as an open-admission facility, takes all comers. In addition to dogs and cats, it鈥檚 housed everything from pigs to alligators. All get the same care. 鈥淲e treat every animal like they鈥檙e an individual.鈥�
